Time to Move on...
What is oppressive about the American South is they live a sheltered existence. Evolution seems to have stopped below the Mason Dixon line. It is emotionally stifling to live in a place that offers no upward mobility in spirituality. Tradition must play a large role in this stance of the Bible Belt, and I’m sure wealthy conservatives want to keep things just the way they are. Unfortunately as an artist nothing could be worse than the prospect of “no growth.” Reliving the same experiences over and over in an outdated traditions may provide stability and happiness for some, but for the rest of us that have yet to begin our lives this feels like death. Nostalgically harking back to the days of yore is a waste of time. I learned this lesson the hard way. It is better to pick yourself up and move on. That is why I feel no specific loss at not owning a house or a wife. Those things are a lot of responsibility, and in today’s housing market the value of a wife may drop just like the Dow Jones Industrial Average. “Feed me!” The only thing I find loss in is the seeming unavailability of a future. When everyone is so set in their ways, you must leave to find your own destiny. (By the way, I am so tired of listening to the Goddamn droning of 82nd Airborne planes. Can we get the fuck out of this war? Why is it they must do their runs at night?) Emotional stagnation is a curse, and if your whole life exists around trying to resurrect the past you are doomed to misery. Intimacy is nice. Having someone to talk to could be nice. You can learn to live without them with the aid of music and a blog. It’s time to move on….
