Dear Editor:
Living day to day in the shadow of continual meteorological chaos created by human-created carbon emissions, the city of Fayetteville has made notable strides. Recovering from three epic hurricanes and their residual flooding, residents of Cumberland County have suffered grievous inconvenience. Drinking water has been contaminated with carcinogenic compounds produced by Chemours. Farmers have been spraying their fields with animal feces and urine. The Marines deploy to Fort Bragg and shake the earth upon which we live. Mayor Mitch Colvin has questioned the city's support of a new Civil War Museum in light of progress not made concerning these issues. Finally the Mirror Lake dam is under construction. It appears to be completed by the end of this year. When faced with this continued blight it could be difficult to prioritize civic monetary support. Fayetteville has made significant strides in downtown development. This renovation long has been underway, since former mayor Bill Hurley exorcised crime from Hay Street. There have been tangible, consistent, and successful efforts to rehabilitate downtown. These successes are the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, Festival Park, the Cape Fear River Trail, the Linear Trail, the FAST Transit Center, the Crown Coliseum, the Arts Center, the Cape Fear Regional Theater, and most recently the completion of SEGRA Stadium. Most importantly the Rowan Street bridge has been replaced. The Prince Charles Hotel is being renovated, and a new accompanying hotel is being build atop the parking deck adjacent to the stadium. The Fayetteville Outer Loop I-295 is under construction. There are many gears churning in Cumberland Country thanks to BRAC's decision to expand Fort Bragg. In particular a small miracle has transpired downtown. A skateboard park is being built at Rowan Street park. Team Pain has done an excellent job designing and constructing this one-of-a-kind recreational facility. This is a time for renewed investment in Fayetteville's youth. Systematically we have abandoned and burdened them with debt. Providing this holistic, healthy, and unifying facility is monumental. It is an investment and a milestone. Fayetteville has broken the surface of her grave for our youth. With these significant developments Fayetteville and her neighboring cities and counties still are struggling with crime, drug abuse, and suicide. Soldiers are returning from deployment and finding it difficult integrate in Cumberland Country. Why? I am fifty-seven, and I grew up living in Greenwood Homes behind Eutaw Shopping Center. The lineage of Fayetteville progress and digression is clear to me. We are subject to massive environmental pollution, and it has escalated. BRAC has not been helpful. Without fomenting anti-military sentiment the effects of their expanded military presence needs to be voiced. Since the election of Donald Trump America has devolved into a violent, racist, and tribal battlefield. Murder is common. Unifying American should be our goal. The incumbent Republican leadership is oppressive. Republican government has loosened if not abolished corporate regulation. Corporate indulgence has run amuck accumulating wealth for their shareholders but with no concern for the average-earning American. We are struggling. Anachronistically they are trying to abolish us. It is called ethnic cleansing. Adolph Hitler may be the starkest reminder of this kind of fascist genocide. In Fayetteville it is not a conscience effort. It is the residual and cumulative effect of Donald Trump's presidency. The Republican Party mindlessly defend this President's shortcomings. Dan Rather calls it a cult, and that cult is the KKK. Good shall prevail through force. Nancy Pelosi said it well. "You have to be ready to strike a blow for our children." When evil is threatening to destroy, it must be struck down. We cannot allow self annihilation. Our environment is reeling from heat resulting in fungal and cancer overgrowth. Fayetteville is an anomaly, because it is triangulated by rail heads. When they are operating in tandem, it is unhealthy for human existence. Lobbyists for rail companies coerce you to believe 4,400 horse power locomotives are healthy for our environment. They are not. They are destructive. They leak low frequency alternating current. Tesla was correct. You can transmit AC through the air. Power companies didn't want us to know. AC technology in traction is the formula for destruction of the human race and the earth. This is why GE's stock is worth five dollars. When DAK Americas, a Mexican-owned polyester resin plant, River Terminal, the Honeycutt Marshalling Yard, the Milan Yard, and Norfolk Southern decide to do business at the same time on the same day earning profits for their shareholders? Residents of Fayetteville are being exposed to low frequency sound and electrocuting low frequency alternating current. The Aberdeen and Rockfish use antiquated, two stroke, turbo-charged diesel prime movers. When operating they produce vibration which can be felt for miles. We are being beaten into submission by enemies who do not care for us. Under Donald Trump America has become a me first society, because this is all that Republicans know. We will not survive.
